PSG might soon see more changes at the back as their defensive reshuffle continues.

With Milan Škriniar’s future at the club in doubt and Presnel Kimpembe along with Lucas Hernandez still recovering from injuries, the Ligue 1 champions are keen to secure reinforcements.

Meanwhile, with Marquinhos now in his 30s, PSG are clearly aiming to inject youth into their backline.

The 2024 arrivals of Lucas Beraldo and Willian Pacho have already laid the groundwork for this shift, but the club doesn’t appear to be stopping there.

Reports suggest that the Parisians are eyeing yet another promising defender to bolster their options: Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens.

Khusanov, a 20-year-old Uzbek international, has caught the eye of several big clubs this season, including Premier League sides Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Brighton.

However, PSG are positioning themselves as serious contenders for his signature. The young defender’s performances have been nothing short of stellar, with Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba describing him as “a monster” and praising his remarkable maturity for his age.

According to Foot Mercato, PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos has already met with Khusanov’s entourage.

While no formal offer has been made yet, PSG are reportedly considering making their move during the winter transfer window.

Khusanov’s valuation, approximately €20 million, makes him a more affordable option than some of PSG’s previous targets, including Benfica’s Tomás Araújo.

Building a future defensive core

The failed pursuit of Araújo in the summer transfer window has seemingly shifted PSG’s focus toward Khusanov, who represents a cost-effective yet high-potential signing.

With Benfica reluctant to sell their defensive gem, PSG see Khusanov as a more realistic target.

Adding Khusanov to their ranks could give PSG a formidable pairing alongside Pacho, offering a long-term solution to their defensive needs.

The Uzbek centre-back’s aggressive yet composed style of play fits perfectly with the modern demands of Ligue 1, and his versatility could prove vital for PSG’s ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.

With competition from top English clubs, PSG will need to act quickly if they want to secure Khusanov’s services.

For a club looking to rebuild its defensive core, this winter could be crucial in determining whether their youthful project becomes the solid foundation they desperately need.
