PSG set to scrutinise Dro Fernandez after inconsistent season
Ligue 1 champions PSG are set to call a scrutiny for former Barcelona fan Dro Fernandez following an underwhelming debut season at the club.
According to a report by Catalan news outlet Sport via Foot Mercato, patience is running thin on PSG’s part when it comes to assessing Dro Fernandez’s contribution this past campaign. Less than six months into the French side and he has already enjoyed the glamour of being a Champions League title holder, but quite surprisingly, he has played more minutes with Barcelona in the tournament (59 minutes against Olympiacos in the league phase) than with Paris Saint-Germain, getting only three minutes in the second leg of the playoff versus Monaco.
Fernandez made a €8 million switch to PSG in hopes of more game time from Barca in the winter transfer window. However, he has struggled with a fragile physique under head coach Luis Enrique’s system. The 18-year-old has made 12 Ligue 1 appearances (682 minutes) since his arrival, scoring a single goal while playing as an attacking midfielder.
PSG are not looking to give Fernandez a significant amount of time to develop, but they are hoping for him to challenge for a first-choice role. This was the primary reason behind the winter transfer, as the European champions already have numerous academy stars ready to go for the midfield positions in the pipeline.
Les Parisiens will continue internal assessments of the squad after the conclusion of the World Cup, pre-season and they will wait at least till the first few months of the new season to finally make a decision on Dro Fernandez’s future.
