Manchester United have gotten off to a very poor start in the 2024-25 season, sacking their manager and currently sitting 13th in the Premier League, only 7 points out of the relegation zone.
They are searching for squad upgrades in order to salvage this season, and one of those players comes from Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United are looking to sign Nuno Mendes from PSG, and a few weeks ago reports even came out that the left-back wanted to leave Paris.
However, recent reports have given PSG a boost in their hope of keeping him.
PSG will continue to negotiate with Nuno Mendes

The first big report on Mendes’ situation comes from Telegraph’s Jason Burt, who says that PSG wants to continue talks with the Portugal international and does not want to let him leave this summer.
This makes sense, as the lack of options generally present in the January window would not allow PSG adequate time to find a replacement with multiple big matches coming up in France and in the Champions League.
A following report from Loic Tanzi and Marc Mechenoua suggests that PSG and Mendes will have a meeting in January to re-engage in extension talks.
Initially, the blockage in the deal was Mendes’ salary, but it appears PSG is willing to increase that in order to keep Mendes at the club.
They reported that Nuno Mendes had agreed to a contract that was to be announced in December, but he backed out of the deal.
Recent reports even suggested that PSG had already found Nuno Mendes’ replacement.
PSG sees themselves with advantage over Manchester United
As mentioned earlier, Manchester United has struggled heavily this season. Due to this, PSG reportedly believes themselves to have an advantage over them.
According to Burt’s report, PSG sees them as a “struggling club” due to the fact they will not play in the Champions League this year, almost certainly will not make it next year, and will not play in the Club World Cup this summer.
This not only has poor financial implications for United, but it also could make them less attractive for a player.
