PSG midfielder Vitinha emerges as prime target for Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid overhaul
PSG's Vitinha emerges as a possible option alongside Man City's Rodri for Real Madrid rebuild under expected head coach Jose Mourinho
PSG‘s star midfielder Vitinha is increasingly becoming linked with Real Madrid, and a possible transfer is on the cards with Jose Mourinho’s expected appointment as head coach of the Spanish giants.
Speaking in an interview with El Larguero, Spanish news outlet AS director Tomas Roncero (as per Le10Sport) revealed that there are two midfielders who are currently playing up to the “standards” of Real Madrid.
Manchester City’s Rodri and Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha are the names identified by Los Blancos’ scouts as prime targets for this summer transfer window. Los Vikingos are aiming to rebuild during this window under soon-to-be appointed manager Jose Mourinho. Real Madrid have endured two consecutive trophyless seasons during which they underwent three managers: Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and now Alvaro Arbeloa. None of these options (except Ancelotti, who left after delivering two Champions League titles) bore fruit for them, and Mourinho’s return to the club is being seen as the ultimate recovery plan with major investments.
Roncero explained the choices by saying, “Rodri would allow Real Madrid’s midfield to rediscover the sense of direction and tactical awareness it had when Kroos or Modric were on the pitch. In addition to having a versatile player [Vitinha], you need someone who looks up and distributes the ball. Mourinho really likes vertical play, and you need a playmaker, and Rodri can be that playmaker.”
Why has Vitinha become an interest for Real Madrid?
The journalist reinforced the idea of choosing PSG man Vitinha and City midfielder Rodri by citing the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. “Then people ask me what the solution is for the midfield, I always mention two names: Rodri and Vitinha; the others seem to me to be secondary,” said Roncero. “A deficit that has been felt repeatedly over the last decade is that club legends have left unceremoniously.”
PSG’s Portuguese midfielder has long been the topic of discussion inside Real Madrid circles ever since last summer. However, no talks took place between the two sides, but something from Madrid can come in the coming days.
