“PSG is my story”: Presnel Kimpembe explains why 2025 Champions League tops the 2018 World Cup

Presnel Kimpembe admitted that winning the Champions League with PSG tops his chart over the 2018 World Cup success.

Speaking in an interview with Jean-François Pérès (via Le10Sport), Kimpembe was asked a question about whether he would put the 2025 Champions League triumph with PSG ahead of the World Cup with France. The Qatar All Stars defender said: “PSG, the Champions League. Because it’s the club’s first. The World Cup is ‘my’ first, but not ‘France’s’ first. After so many years of hardship and struggle, PSG is my story.”

On May 31, 2025, Paris Saint-Germain scripted a special chapter in their 55-year history by lifting the Champions League for the first time, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. It was a moment to cherish for a player like Kimpembe, who spent 22 years at the French club, becoming a youth academy graduate, and then working his way up to gaining a first-choice player spot in the team.

The Frenchman was also part of Les Bleus’ World Cup-winning squad in 2018, sealing France’s second-ever World Cup trophy after the 1998 triumph with Zinedine Zidane and Didier Deschamps.

Kimpembe revealed to Journal du Dimanche that he would have struggled to leave the Ligue 1 giants without European silverware under his belt. He said: “I’m a ‘titi’ (a PSG youth academy product), I’m one of the pioneers. That will stay with me for life. I couldn’t leave PSG after twenty-two years without winning this trophy; I would have seen it as a failure.”
