PSG linked to a summer move for Liverpool superstar

While the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid ended PSG’s era of superstars, they have ran into a bit of an identity crisis this year.

The attack has struggled in the Champions League, with Goncalo Ramos’ goal against RB Salzburg being the only goal scored from an attacker in the competition this season.

While this strategy strays away from their efforts to focus on signing younger players instead of established stars, a report from Romain Collet Gaudin suggests PSG are very interested in signing a Liverpool superstar.

PSG reportedly want to sign Mohamed Salah

We are talking about Mohamed Salah. Collet Gaudin suggests that the French club is offering a three-year deal of €500,000 per week, meanwhile, Liverpool’s efforts to retain him are only a two-year offer with a salary of €400,000.

With some of Ousmane Dembele’s struggles, including getting sent off in the match against Bayern Munich and getting left out of the squad against Arsenal for a feud with Luis Enrique, it seems PSG is looking into replacing him in the lineup.

His versatility could mean he could stay as a bench option, but a player with his wages and talent likely wouldn’t accept that, so it could open the door for him to leave Paris if Salah comes.

Salah, a star who delivers both on and off the pitch

Salah has gotten off to a fantastic start in the 2024-25 season, already bagging 20 goals and providing 17 assists in all competitions while Liverpool is off to a soaring start in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

While he does have a reputation of starting seasons stronger than he ends them, he walks into the starting XI of any club in the world and would be a clear upgrade for PSG at right wing.

Salah’s interest in PSG also goes beyond the on-field production. They are missing that global superstar to market the club with that they have had with players like Mbappe, Neymar Jr., and Lionel Messi.

Salah is not quite as big as those three, but he is certainly one of the most well-known players around the world.

On Instagram, his 63 million followers are sixth among active footballers, and only Mbappé has more among players who are still playing in Europe.

Salah’s shirt is also very popular among fans, being one of the top-selling jerseys in the world. Having both him and Achraf Hakimi allows PSG to expand their reach into Africa, and that inter-continental reach is something that the club’s owners have been pushing for.

While €500,000 per week is certainly a lot, Salah’s marketability and production on the pitch would make it well worth it.

With Liverpool sitting at the top of the Premier League and in a prime position to make a deep run into the Champions League it may be difficult to convince him to leave the Reds, but if PSG can make it happen then it would be a phenomenal boost to their squad.
