It is no secret that goalkeeping has been an issue for PSG in recent years.

Between Gianluigi Buffon’s meltdown in PSG’s 2019 Champions League collapse against Manchester United or Gianluigi Donnarumma’s mistakes costing them against Real Madrid in 2022 and putting them at risk of being knocked out in the league phase in 2025, they have been unable to find consistency between the posts in recent years outside of Keylor Navas.

Donnarumma arrived at the Parc des Princes in 2021 as the hottest commodity in goalkeeping but has failed to live up to the level he set for himself at AC Milan.

With rumors swirling about his departure, PSG has identified a potential replacement for if he were to leave.

PSG wants Lille’s Lucas Chevalier

According to a report from SportsZone, PSG has decided that Lille keeper Lucas Chevalier is the man for the job between the posts.

Chevalier will be one of the most followed goalkeepers in Europe, as he has made a name for himself with outstanding performances in the Champions League.

His season has been highlighted by his clean sheet against Real Madrid where according to FotMob, he kept Madrid quiet despite the shots they put on target having 1.99 expected goals based on the placement of the shots.

His 3.1 expected goals prevented also ranks fourth among all keepers in the UCL.

As mentioned in the report, a signing of the French international hinges on Donnarumma leaving the club, with him currently linked to some elite clubs in England and Italy.

What would a deal cost?

As you could probably guess, signing Chevalier would not be easy.

If he were to leave, Lille would use Inter Milan’s sale of Andre Onana back in 2023 as a benchmark, which was 50 million.

Much of the competition they will face comes from the Premier League. Manchester United is currently unsatisfied with Onana and could look for a change of keeper.

Just across the road, Manchester City could look to shore up the future with Ederson turning 32 this year. The final potential destination is Chelsea, which needs to find its keeper for the future.

Recently, the goalkeeper has also been linked to Newcastle United and has been described as “exactly what Howe (Newcastle’s coach) is looking for” by the Geordie Boot Boys portal.

Signing Chevalier will not be easy, but he would be the kind of signing that can change the direction of the club.
