French journalist questions PSG’s interest in Crystal Palace’s Jaydee Canvot

PSG have identified Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot as a potential replacement for the ageing Marquinhos in central defence.

PSG have registered an early interest in Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot as French journalist Olivier Bossard questions the decision.

Speaking in an interview on the set of L’Equipe de Greg (via Le10Sport), Bossard voiced his opinion on PSG potentially replacing Marquinhos with former Toulouse and current Crystal Palace centre-back Jaydee Canvot this summer. He said: “It seems a bit premature to me. He’s only recently become a regular starter. He took Guehi’s place when he left for City; before that, he wasn’t a regular starter. But it seems a bit too soon. We imagine it would be to replace Marquinhos… Perhaps they need a regular starter right away. Zabarnyi won’t work; Beraldo might have a better future as a defensive midfielder. If the idea is to bring him in and play him alongside Pacho right away, it seems a bit premature. He hasn’t even been playing for six months. It seems a bit too soon

Ilia Zabarnyi was brought in last summer for the sole purpose of deputising for the ageing Marquinhos, and to form a defensive partnership with Willian Pacho, who replaced Presnel Kimpembe. PSG’s interest in Canvot means that the former Toulouse man could return to the Ligue 1, leaving a first-choice role at The Eagles, gained after the departure of Marc Guehi.

The Ukrainian defender has failed to impress head coach Luis Enrique, and therefore, sporting director Luis Campos has been handed the task of finding a new central defender. It remains to be seen whether Canvot’s transfer becomes an actual reality due to his young age.
