Allegations of lies levelled against Barcelona; PSG may get the upper hand in Julian Alvarez saga

The future of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez has generated much speculation and debate among fans and in the media. Currently bound to La Liga side Atlético de Madrid till 2030, and with a release clause of €500 million, the 2022 World Cup winner has expressed his desire to leave the club. However, media speculations surrounding the player have irked the authorities at the player’s current club, who have now levelled against FC Barcelona, a frontrunner in the race to sign Alvarez, allegations of spreading lies about the entire situation. PSG could gain from this situation.

As per reports by Le10Sport, the Argentine forward, who has recorded 8 goals and 4 assists in La Liga, and 10 goals and 5 assists in the UEFA Champions League, is currently linked with a move away from the Metropolitano, and fellow La Liga side FC Barcelona are considered to be the favourites to secure his signing as replacement for the Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who is set to leave the club when his contract runs out in the summer. To this end, the Catalan side have, reportedly, submitted an official bid of €100 million to Atlético de Madrid.

However, sources within the Madrid-based side have refuted these speculations, saying, “It’s just another lie.” Another source, in a statement given to media outlet AS, said, “(Julian Alvarez) is not for sale. The club has not received any offers for the player.” He went on to say, “We’re fed up with these months of lies, half-truths, and completely fabricated stories, like these alleged property purchases in Barcelona or these absurd questions asked of our players.”

PSG, who are surely keeping a close tab on the situation, might be able to step in and secure the services of Julian Alvarez for themselves if FC Barcelona fails to send any concrete proposal that satisfies the club authorities at Atlético de Madrid.
