Atletico Madrid tags Julian Alvarez as ‘not for sale’ to PSG for now

PSG are dealt a transfer blow ahead of the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday evening against Arsenal and Atleti block star transfer

PSG, who will be playing their second consecutive UEFA Champions League final on Saturday against the Premier League champions Arsenal, are sure to have a busy transfer window during the summer, as Sporting Director Luis Campos looks to revamp the squad with several departures and recruitments in line. In particular, the name of 26-year-old Argentine striker Julian Alvarez has been circulating for quite some time as an addition to the attacking line of PSG. It is to be noted that the 2022 World Cup-winning forward is currently under contract with Atlético de Madrid until 2030, and has a release clause of €500 million.

However, as reported by Le10Sport, a source from within Atlético de Madrid made a statement to Madrid-based media outlet AS that the club is not willing to sell its still under-contract striker. The source said, “He is not for sale. The club has not received any offers for the player, and no meetings have taken place.” This, it is understood within PSG that securing the services of Alvarez for themselves will definitely be an uphill task.

It is believed within the media that Atlético de Madrid will be willing to part ways with Julian Alvarez for a sum close to around €100 million, more so because the player has himself expressed his desire to leave. However, it remains to be seen whether PSG Sporting Director Luis Campos will be willing to spend this big a sum on a recruit, considering the fact that he has maintained a policy of not overpaying players ever since he took charge back in 2022.
