Atletico Madrid present huge renewal offer to Julian Alvarez to keep PSG at bay

A tussle is currently going on between PSG and FC Barcelona over who would secure the services of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez in the upcoming summer transfer window. Alvarez has been a key target for the Parisian club, with manager Luis Enrique getting into direct negotiations with the 26-year-old. Alvarez, however, has not yet made any decision, preferring to wait for Barcelona to present its offer.

However, as reported by Foot Mercato, it is to be noted that the PSG target’s current club, Atlético de Madrid, have offered a contract extension to him that would potentially make him the highest paid player at the Metropolitano, alongside goalkeeper Jan Oblak. If he agrees to the contract extension, it would give the Argentine €10 million net per year. This is a huge offer, considering the fact that the 2025-26 season has been quite average for the young striker, Julian Alvarez, who has scored just eight goals and registered four assists in La Liga, and has recorded ten goals and four assists in the UEFA Champions League. Atlético de Madrid finished fourth in the Spanish top flight and went out of the Champions League in the semi-finals against Arsenal.

It is to be noted that the current contract of Alvarez with Atlético de Madrid ties him to the Metropolitano till 2030, and he has a release clause of €500 million. It will be interesting to see if PSG can manage a fruitful negotiation with both the player and his club and secure the services of the 2022 World Cup winner.
