PSG enter race to sign Racing de Santander’s €16 million sensation

PSG register a firm interest in Racing de Santander defender Jorge Salinas as his current club increases the release clause.

PSG register interest in Racing de Santander defender Jorge Salinas.

According to a report by Spanish media outlet AS via Foot Mercato, Salinas ticks all the boxes for the defensive profile currently hunted by PSG’s sporting director, Luis Campos, in the transfer market. Newly promoted to the La Liga, Racing de Santander are aware of this interest from the French capital, and therefore, they have increased the 19-year-old’s release clause to €16 million.

PSG should have no problem in triggering the release clause, and it could make the Segunda division champions’ most expensive sale ever in their history. Clubs like FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, Bologna, Newcastle United, and FC Porto are also probing the youngster who is set to leave the Cantabria-based club this summer.

AS‘ report stated that Salinas“possesses similar characteristics to Sergio Ramos: a strong personality, great ease in duels, and a particularly effective aerial game.”

PSG’s plan is to recruit a player who can alternate as a central defender and a left-back to deputise for the first-choice left full-back, Nuno Mendes. He cannot be given regular minutes by head coach Luis Enrique, but will feature since Les Parisiens feature in Europe along with their domestic duties.

Last season, Salinas appeared in 34 matches for Racing de Santander, 31 of them as a starter.

PSG could reduce the €16 million clause to a €8 million permanent transfer, as the defender has a youth contract with the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation). PSG have scouted Salinas before, but an official offer is pending.
