PSG starlet’s World Cup selection heartbreak sparks international tug-of-war

PSG youth forward Fabio Domingos is expected to return to Luxembourg National Team after Cape Verde World Cup snub

PSG youth player Fabio Domingos is involved in an international imbroglio ahead of the World Cup following Cape Verde snub.

PSG U-19 forward Domingos is exploring the option of returning to his previous international side, Luxembourg, after Cape Verde head coach Bubista left him out of his 2026 World Cup roster in the Americas, as per a report by Foot Mercato.

The 18-year-old, renowned for his one-on-one duels and performances with Paris Saint-Germain’s youth side as a left-winger, was called up by Luxembourg head coach Jeff Strasser in March. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the youngster left the Red Lions to commit his international career to the Blue Sharks, who also gave him his debut in a friendly against Finland.

Bubista’s decision has left the Domingos in a state of surprise, as he was hailed as one of Cape Verde’s biggest attacking threats. The prospect of featuring in the World Cup worked greatly in the mind of the Luxembourg-born man when he changed his football country to the African island’s side.

This situation has now given rise to speculation over a possible return of Domingos to the country where he was born and also represented from the U-16 level.

As for the Luxembourg U-19 outfit, he appeared five times between October 2024 and March 2025, scoring thrice. For Cape Verde, he has featured once. PSG has fielded him five times this season across their U-19 and U-21 levels.

Cape Verde has proceeded with the likes of Gilson Benchimol, Jovane Cabral, Nuno da Costa, Dailon Livramento, Ryan Mendes, Garry Rodrigues, Willy Semedo, and Helio Varela in attack.
