Yohan Cabaye’s race against time: PSG fights to keep youth stars as rivals circle

PSG youth academy’s sporting director Yohan Cabaye is progressing to extend the stay of homegrown talent before rivals sweep in.

According to a report by L’Equipe (via Foot Mercato), numerous PSG academy graduates are aiming to renew their contracts and possibly sign their first professional deal with the first team in the coming days. Director Cabaye has already convinced youngster Adam Ayari to extend his stay in the French capital.

The renewal of the 18-year-old is crucial since Ajax have been interested in securing the services of the player for quite some time. He could have easily been lured away by the Dutch side since they have a reliable and historic structure of growth for young players.

18-year-old goalkeeper Arthur Vignaud is also expected to commit his long-term future to Paris Saint-Germain through a promotion to the senior team next season, after making his appearance in first-team training. Samba Coulibaly is likely to follow Vignaud’s footsteps and sign his professional contract with PSG. Currently being pursued by Bayern Munich and Paris FC, Pierre Mounguengue was given a chance by Luis Enrique as a substitute during PSG’s match against Lorient, and this situation has convinced the youngster to continue with the club.

Who are the players set to leave PSG from the youth team

Despite a push in negotiations by Cabaye, who took the French youth side to the UEFA Youth League finals, where they got defeated by Real Madrid, it will be tough to keep the whole lot of PSG’s youth. Aymen Assab is inching closer to a move to AS Monaco. Defender Hermann Malonga could be on the move this summer, while goalkeeper Martin James remains uncertain.
