Willian Pacho’s professional career took off with Independiente del Valle, a club in Ecuador. During his time there, he adopted the number 51 on his jersey, a tribute to his mother who passed away at the age of 51.

His emotional connection to the number symbolized more than just his growth as a player, it also represented the strength he carried from his personal life.

The leap from Independiente del Valle to the Ecuador national team was another surprise for Pacho.

Speaking to PSG media, the Ecuadorian opened up about his beginnings. “It was incredible, I didn’t expect it at all, and I knew that it was the start of the toughest stage, that I had to work even harder.

“When I got the news, I was very happy, and I immediately called my family to tell them.”

The turning point in his career came when PSG came knocking. Signing with PSG was a moment Pacho would never forget.

He called his family, especially his sister, “I called a lot of people! But it was my sister first. I already had the shirt and I showed it to my family. It was an incredible moment, and everyone was very happy for me,” he proudly declared.

Regarding Luis Enrique, Pacho stated that the coach often gives him valuable advice, which he tries to follow as best as he can.

“He gives me a lot of confidence. He is able to speak to people. I always try to give my all, and I listen to everything he has to say. For example, he makes me work a lot on my weaker foot.”

Life at PSG and Willian Pacho’s growing influence

Willian Pacho has settled into life at PSG well, building strong bonds with his teammates. Although he gets along with everyone, he particularly enjoys his camaraderie with Achraf Hakimi and Marco Asensio.

“I get on well with everyone, and I like spending time with Achraf, Ousmane, Randal, and Marco. And I get on very well with the Portuguese! I sometimes go out with them as a group, we have some good times together,” he shared.

His growing influence in the squad is evident as he continues to adapt to the intensity of top-level European football.

One of his most proud accomplishments is becoming the first Ecuadorian to win the Trophee des Champions, marking a significant milestone in his career.

“We were really happy, because we work hard to achieve that sort of goal, to win trophies. I’m also the first Ecuadorian to win it! That’s something that makes me really proud.”

Now, after the victory against Espaly, PSG and Pacho will focus on their next match on Saturday, January 18, against Lens in Ligue 1.
