Conflicting reports emerge about PSG’s interest in Cristiano Ronaldo

After Kylian Mbappe left for Real Madrid, people have been speculating on whether PSG would replace him with another global superstar, or if they would stick to their approach of signing younger players.

One of the names PSG were tied to was Mohamed Salah, but a recent report came out with an even more shocking name.

That name is Cristiano Ronaldo, with Pedro Almeida coming out and saying that PSG and Ronaldo were in talks.

PSG reportedly interested in Cristiano Ronaldo

This comes as a shock, as it goes against everything Luis Enrique and Luis Campos did in the summer window.

They focused on going for young talents over established ones, choosing players like Desire Doue over Bernardo Silva and Joao Neves over Joshua Kimmich.

However, Almeida, who is usually well in touch with Portuguese news, suggests they might have some interest in Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo would certainly fit the club’s desire for a marketable star in Mbappe’s absence, as Ronaldo is the most followed footballer on social medias and likely the biggest name in the sport. However, the fit on the pitch is questionable.

While Ronaldo has found success with Al Nassr, the level of the Saudi Pro League is not on the level that PSG would face in competitions such as Ligue 1 or the Champions League.

He has struggled with Portugal recently as well, with poor performances in the 2024 Euros and the 2022 World Cup.

Signing Ronaldo doesn’t make sense

It likely doesn’t make sense financially either. Right now, Ronaldo is on an otherworldly 200,000,000 Euros per year, and that does not include the sponsorship opportunities that he receives by playing in Saudi Arabia.

That is almost certainly not a number PSG is going to be able to match, so a move to the French capital would require a massive pay cut for Cristiano.

Ben Jacobs has quickly also came out and denied Almeida’s report about the club’s interest, making a deal seem even more unlikely.

Ronaldo could have provided an interesting option for PSG as a striker with Randal Kolo Muani potentially leaving the club, but his massive salary and his age make a deal seem unlikely.

This likely leaves the trust at the starting striker position to Goncalo Ramos, Ronaldo’s fellow countryman.
