Facing a position they did not want to be in coming into the tournament, PSG has their backs against the wall going into the final rounds of the new Champions League league phase.

Coming into matchday seven, they currently sit 25th in the table on 7 points with two wins, one draw, and three defeats.

If they cannot get enough points to sneak into the top 24 in the next two matches, they will be eliminated from the Champions League.

When are the next two Champions League matches for PSG?

On matchday seven, PSG will take on Manchester City at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, January 22. The match begins at 3 PM EST/9 PM CET.

Manchester City comes into this match only sitting 22nd in the table with eight points, having struggled for form with Ballon d’Or winner Rodri tearing his ACL and missing the vast majority of the season.

The final match they play will be on the road against VFB Stuttgart.

Stuttgart currently is equal with PSG on points, but behind them with a -3 goal differential. The German club has a big opportunity on matchday seven to rack up goals and points against Slovan Bratislava, who currently has lost every game.

What is needed to get through?

While there is no specific target number, it is generally believed that ten points would get PSG through. Currently sitting on seven, that means they just have to get one win of the next two.

Two losses or a loss and a draw likely eliminates them, while two draws put them very close to the edge.

According to OPTA’s supercomputer, PSG finishes with at least nine points in 78% of their simulations.

As for the ranking, the most common placement was actually 26th, where they finished in 12.2% of simulations.

However, OPTA gives them over a 71% chance to make the top 24 and reach the next stage.

That said, no matter what happens, it seems that Luis Enrique will have his place secured for next season.
