PSG extends vote of confidence in Luis Enrique, but is it the right move?

PSG’s European campaign has not gotten off to the start they wanted, currently at risk of being sent out before the knockouts for the first time in over a decade, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid being the only clubs with a longer streak of making it past the first phase.

PSG defeated RC Lens on the last matchday of Ligue 1, showcasing their domestic dominance but also highlighting the same struggles they faced throughout the season.

With PSG’s creativity in attack lacking, there is a growing feeling of question within parts of the PSG fan base over whether Luis Enrique should continue as manager if he can’t get things back on track quickly.

With recent reports from L’Equipe, it seems the club has made a decision.

PSG seems to be set to keep Enrique

According to L’Equipe, PSG will be calm in the event of a departure in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.

While it is not directly said, this report heavily implies that Enrique will be staying no matter what happens.

A similar decision was made when it looked like PSG could have been knocked out in the group stage last year as well.

Is this the right decision?

While Enrique has sometimes produced questionable results on the pitch in Europe, he has certainly done enough to warrant keeping his job in the transfer market.

Bringing over Joao Neves is just one example, but Enrique is a highly respected coach for whom players want to play.

His current contract expires at the end of this year, but in a recent interview, Enrique confirmed he would love to stay at the club for a long time.

Continuity at the top is something PSG has severely lacked under QSI. Managers are consistently switching around and getting sacked, and it would be a big mistake for PSG to add Luis Enrique to the list of short-tenured managers.
