Amidst the celebrations of the victory over AS Monaco, an incident involving PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma caught the attention of fans.
Despite the severity of the challenge, no red card was shown, leaving many to question the referee’s decision-making.
The PSG goalkeeper was forced off the pitch with a significant facial injury, but the drama surrounding the tackle continues to unfold.
Gianluigi Donnarumma in spotlight after shocking incident

In a high-stakes Ligue 1 encounter, PSG managed to edge out AS Monaco 2-4, putting them firmly at the top of the table.
However, Monaco’s Wilfried Singo’s ugly challenge on Donnarumma left many questioning whether a harsher punishment should have been handed out.
Singo, who had already received a yellow card earlier in the match, dangerously caught the PSG goalkeeper with a high challenge that struck Donnarumma’s face.
Despite the apparent severity of the foul, referee Francois Letexier opted against issuing a red card, leaving Donnarumma to be substituted with a serious facial injury.
The incident has led to several questions about the referee’s judgment and whether Donnarumma’s injury could have been avoided.
PSG immediately confirmed that Donnarumma had suffered multiple facial wounds and would undergo further medical tests. The goalkeeper’s recovery is expected to take at least ten days, depending on the healing of his injuries.
As quoted by Canal Supporters, Mickael Landreau, former PSG goalkeeper and spokesperson for Ligue 1 referees, weighed in on the situation.
“Could Singo have placed his foot elsewhere and acted differently? This is where there is a lot of sharing between my feeling as a player and goalkeeper.” Landreau said on Canal Plus. “There was a unanimous consensus that this situation could not have gone without a card. The clear position of the Refereeing Technical Department is that François Letexier should have shown a red card.”
How long will Gianluigi Donnarumma be out of action?
Following the incident, PSG confirmed that Donnarumma would be sidelined for several days while his injuries heal.
The club announced that the goalkeeper would return to Paris with the team and undergo medical exams.
A specialist consulted by Le Parisien suggested that Donnarumma’s recovery could take between 10 to 15 days, depending on how the wounds heal.
The ongoing debate regarding the referee’s decision has ignited further discussion on the consistency of officiating in Ligue 1.
With fresh news surrounding PSG, such as the potential sale of Carlos Soler to West Ham United, we hope that the unfortunate situation involving the goalkeeper doesn’t fade into oblivion and that justice is served, or at least brought to light.
For now, the Parisian club remains resolute in the face of adversity. Their next match will be against Lens in the Coupe de France, where sadly, Donnarumma will not be participating.
