Atletico Madrid reject Barcelona’s initial bid for PSG target Julian Alvarez
La Liga outfits Atletico Madrid reject Barcelona's first bid for star man Julian Alvarez as the Catalans intend to get the deal done before PSG enters the race.
La Liga side Atletico Madrid have rejected Barcelona’s first bid for PSG summer target Julian Alvarez.
According to a report by David Ibáñez via beIN Sports, Atletico Madrid received their first offer from Barcelona for Alvarez today after the player reportedly gave the green light to the Catalan giants over a possible transfer. However, Los Colchoneros stood their ground and rejected the proposal worth around €90 million plus bonuses while adding Ferran Torres to the deal.
The initial idea from Barca was to mitigate the impact on their coffers since they are also close to signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a staggering €80 million deal. It is understood that Barcelona’s financial situation has improved in comparison to earlier campaigns, where LaLiga held them back on the player registrations front. Their new stadium has now helped them regain the 1:1 rule, under which they can reinvest every euro they have earned.
Atletico Madrid’s rejection was immediate as they do not want to let go of the Argentine star for anything less than €150 million. They are aware of an imminent transfer battle between Arsenal and PSG following the Champions League final on May 30, and would like to weigh in on their offers instead of sending Alvarez to a direct league rival.
Barcelona prepare second offer for PSG target Julian Alvarez
The La Liga champions do not want to waste time and give PSG space to negotiate. Therefore, they are already moving forward with their second offer worth €110 million without including any players. Bonuses will be added to the package to significantly increase the value of the entire sale.
