Only eight months after Kylian Mbappe left PSG to go to Real Madrid, rumors are swirling that the French club could take a superstar right back from the Spanish champions.

The player named is the Ballon d’Or runner-up, Vinicius Jr. He is having some contract disputes with Madrid, and some believe he could leave the club.

Sacha Tavolieri’s recent report says that the Brazillian’s camp has talked to PSG about a potential move and that if he does not get the financial package he wants from Real Madrid he would be open to more concrete talks.

After a tough first three years in Spain, Vinicius Junior broke onto the scene in the 2021-22 season. In that campaign, he scored 22 goals and provided 16 assists, with the most important of those goals being the winner in Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League Final victory over Liverpool.

He was the runner-up for the Ballon d’Or in 2024, with many believing he should have won it after scoring 24 goals and leading Madrid to another Champions League trophy.

His contract ends in 2027, so the Spanish club has been working hard to renew him. Unfortunately for them, those efforts have not gone to plan.

Revelo reported that the two sides are far apart, with The Athletic confirming that he rejected their first contract offer.

He is currently the third-highest earner on the team, but he is making around 10 million Euros less per year than Kylian Mbappe.

Any request from him would likely include making him the highest-paid player in the Spanish capital.

Could PSG really sign Vinicius?

The first thing that it would take is a ton of money. With him under contract until 2027 and only 25 years old, it is likely that Real Madrid’s asking price would rival what PSG paid for Neymar back in 2017.

It would also take a lot to convince the player to leave. While he is having some disputes, he has been at the club for six years and is in a great position to further his career and keep winning there.

While PSG has shown they can win negotiations against the biggest clubs, signing Lionel Messi, Neymar, Ousmane Dembele, and Xavi Simons from Barcelona, keeping Mbappe out of Madrid’s hands for seven years, and recently signing Desire Doue from Bayern Munich, it would be no easy task to get Vinicius to leave Real Madrid.

This signing also does not fit with PSG’s recent philosophy. They have been focusing on signing younger players who are content to play a different role every match.

While Vinicius is still young at 25, he would expect to start every single match and that is not something Luis Enrique has shown to guarantee to anybody.

His signing would also conflict with the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and would likely mean one of Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, or Doue would end up leaving the club.

There have been reports that Vinicius also talked with teams in Saudi Arabia, so this all just may be him trying to get the best contract he can from Real Madrid, but if any club wants to take a chance at signing the near-Ballon d’Or winner, PSG would be that club.
