PSG loanee Randal Kolo Muani faces France exile after Spurs struggle
PSG loanee at Spurs and World Cup runner-up Kolo Muani on verge of getting axed from France team for World Cup
PSG loanee at Tottenham Hotspur, Randal Kolo Muani, is set to be excluded by Didier Deschamps from his World Cup squad.
According to a report by Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, Kolo Muani is expected to face the axe from Deschamps’ squad list for the 2026 World Cup (June 11-July 19). The French coach will officially unveil the selected players this evening at 8 p.m (French time) on TF1.
This is being seen as a bold decision by Deschamps, who left the 2022 World Cup runners-up out of the squad. Having made a significant contribution during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Jean-Philippe Mateta is predicted to replace Kolo Muani. The coach’s decision comes after Hugo Ekitike had suffered a severe Achilles tendon rupture.
Kolo Muani has failed to impress at Spurs this season, and was incapable of providing an impact during Les Bleus’ last national team fixtures in March. He came on as a substitute in the 3-1 friendly victory over Colombia, and remained largely unseen.
The 27-year-old on loan from PSG at the North London side has managed to score just five goals in 39 appearances across all competitions for the club this campaign. While he has faced game-time issues in the Premier League, Deschamps finds him an unreliable character compared to the likes of Marcus Thuram or Mateta.
All eyes are now on Deschamps this evening as he is set to announce the France National Team squad selected to travel to the Americas this summer for football’s biggest tournament.
