Julian Alvarez shuns PSG to spark sensational Barcelona transfer dream
The 26-year-old Argentine striker, Julian Alvarez, had been heavily linked with a summer move to PSG after it was revealed by several media outlets that the player was unwilling to continue at Atletico Madrid. However, it is to be noted that the striker is bound by a contract lasting till 2030, and has a release clause of €500 million.
As reported by media outlets, three clubs have shown interest in securing the services of the 2022 World Cup-winning striker: PSG, Arsenal and Atlético de Madrid. The latter, while keen on retaining the services of Alvarez, will be open to considering a move for the player if he so wants, and will let him leave for €150 million.
This interest shown by these top European clubs is itself very interesting; Alvarez did not have a very productive 2025-26 season in terms of his attacking output; the Argentine scored merely eight goals and registered four assists in 29 appearances in the Spanish top flight as his side finished fourth on the points table. On the UEFA Champions League front, however, Alvarez managed to score ten goals and register four assists. Atlético de Madrid reached the semi-finals of the competition.
Now, as reported by Foot Mercato, the former Manchester City forward is set to say no to the deal proposed by PSG, as the Argentine striker wants to join fellow La Liga side FC Barcelona, who are the current league holders, and have now won three league titles in their past four seasons. Atlético de Madrid are expected not to impede the proceedings of Alvarez’s departure from the club if the player himself wants to leave.
